When you think of young children, I bet you think of many things. Maybe their joy or excitement. Maybe their continuous energy. One attribute I had always associated with young children was creativity. With my previous experience as a teacher, I have had much time to observe creativity in young children. After becoming a Guide at Wildflower and going through our first school year, I realized how much stronger the Hero’s creativity and imaginations had become. My mind was blown away by the differences between them and who they were at the beginning of the year. I noticed massive growth in the play time and the games they would come up with, the crafts they would make during free time, and the way they would creatively solve problems. Creative problem solving is something that I found was typically challenging with young children. While it isn’t always a piece of cake, they had truly improved in their skills. As I was reflecting on all this, I was just mind blown and now I look forward to watching this imagination and creativity become sparked in new Heroes!
